Where I Blog

small Office in dinign room

Good evening everyone,

I hope you are doing great, it’s been a while since I posted and I’ve been a little bit less active in the blogging world lately but I’m back now.

Thank you so much to those of you who reached out to me during these last two weeks and noticed my absenteeism. I have been dealing with some health issues, which I am not ready to share at this moment but I am recuperating well.

When I started writing this post, I didn’t know how I should name it, I decided to go with where I blog because I am about to show you my new little nook I made for myself in our dining room.

Dining room!

What?

Again?

I’m sure this is what you are saying to yourself now that you are reading this.

Right?  Hubby had the same reaction.

Well, if you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I keep swapping furniture around our house. So, this should not be a surprise for you. If you are new here, welcome to my insanity.

Do you remember the corner of the dining room where I placed the big black chalkboard? If you don’t,  you can always take a look at my last post where I revealed my dining room makeover.

I know it’s been only two weeks since I finally finished working in this space but I kept looking and thinking about that corner. It felt empty but I didn’t want to add anything too bulky. I also wanted to keep the chalkboard there. At first, I considered placing the butcher block island but it didn’t look good. So, I went looking around the house for something. I begged hubby to bring my old IKEA desk upstairs. The desk is not heavy, so he was able to bring it up by himself without complaining about it too much. When he was bringing the desk upstairs, I was worried that I wouldn’t like it there and that I would have to ask him to bring it back. I’m glad I like it and that I can still use my chalkboard.

I would’ve liked to style this little office corner with pretty office accessories but I don’t want to keep too many things here because let’s not forget that this is still the place where we eat every day. And, I still have my craft room where I keep all my office accessories.

You may ask yourself why do I need this little office corner when I have the craft room upstairs. The truth is that with a 2 year old, I can’t always be upstairs by myself crafting, reading or writing. I love my craft room but it doesn’t work for our family. I get to use the room only once in a while at night when Nate is asleep and by then I’m too exhausted to get creative. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still keeping that room for all my craft supplies but that’s not where I blog.

Before, I put this little corner together I was blogging at my kitchen island. You might remember that I have mentioned this before. It’s not the most comfortable place in our home but that’s the best place where I get to keep my computer open while keeping an eye on Nate at all times. Now, that this desk is in this space, I still get to keep an eye on Nate and when it’s time to prepare dinner I can tuck things away in the drawers. After dinner, I can still blog and be part of all our family activities. Now, let me show you what I’ve been up to.

Wait, wait, wait, before I show you some pictures of my new little corner, look at this candle holder, I got it from the Bay Hudson (from the Gluckstein Home collection). Isn’t it beautiful, I love it very much and I was able to get it at %40 off. I removed the green vase from the white desk of our dining room and displayed my new candle holder instead:

Now, here is the office corner. I found a home to my $5 garage sale find (the chair) which I will be posting about shortly. Even, after adding a desk lamp and the chair this small corner still felt empty:

Yesterday afternoon when I was supposed to be resting, I nailed these 3 black frames to the wall. It instantly changed the look of the space. It defines the space. When I started working on my living room wall gallery I first nailed 6 of these frames to the wall and then changed my mind and only kept 4 of them. So, yesterday I removed 1 of them from the living room and replaced it with a gold frame instead.

See in the picture below how the desk fits into the dining room. It does take some space because it’s a bit bulky on the sides but there is still plenty of room between the table and the desk:

my small Office in dinign room

This evening before posting, I wanted to take some pictures for you of the desk so you can see what I added (my green vase and a snow globe), I started cleaning up and removed plenty of items that were there but I stopped myself and took a REAL picture of how this corner looks after a long day with Nate. I even gave him a new hair cut in this chair just an hour before I snapped these pictures while distracting him with Justin Timberlake’s video (please don’t judge). Nate loves the song ‘suit and tie’ as much as I do.

Messy, yes but that’s what happens when you have a 2 year old running around all day. You can even see his diapers and wipes at the corner of the desk. Did you notice the white deer head? Ah! you will have to wait and see in a future post what I am preparing. I can’t wait to show you:

If you think this is messy, you should’ve seen how it looked before I cleaned up. You see the rolls of brown and white kraft paper? I’m getting ready for my Christmas presents and I might post about it soon. I might try something I saw this week on the day show ‘Cityline’ and share it with you later:

I’m happy to be back and thanks again for stopping by!

wish everyone a lovely weekend!

Hi Ingrid. You are always so ingenious with how you use your space with the items you have. It looks fabulous! I also love how you shared the ‘real’ photos of what your desk looks like because that is what mine looks like too! I hope you health issue resolve itself. As bloggers we share with the world the ‘bloggy world’ but from my own experience there are many other challenges and difficult times that are part of the real world that go on behind the scenes. Take care, Thea

So sorry to hear you’ve been having some health issues; praying that you’re on the mend! And that you can take it easy, too. LOVED reading about your new “blog nook.” As we’re looking for a home to buy in the area, I’ve often thought it impractical to have a separate craft room, at least in these years ahead when we’re hoping to have kids. So, I think it’s genius to incorporate a blogging corner into your dining room space, near the action! Also, thanks for giving us so many sneak peeks at upcoming projects and posts. I’m IN LOVE with that deer head, and can’t believe that chair was only $5! What a steal! Welcome back, Ingrid, dear!

:-) thanks so much Lauren, I really appreciate you stopping by and being so sweet! :-)
& yes, you are right, I really love my craft room but with kids it’s not practical, having this little corner in the middle of everything is much more practical & it’s all mine even though hubby and Nate get to use it too! Nate loves watching music videos on it :-)
& oh! can’t wait to share the deer head with you guys, I’m hoping to finish it this afternoon! :-) thanks again Lauren!

It was fun seeing your workspace — and I totally understand how tidy a desk can be with a toddler nearby :) It makes so much sense why you moved your workspace in there. I have a craft room in our basement, but I only get so much time to craft. I need a workspace near our living area for the same reasons.
