Living in a narrow town house, you can imagine how small our entrance is. It can get messy, really fast with a one year old who makes it difficult every time we leave the house. With the Holidays around the corner, I wanted to change things and add some color by using this combo; turquoise (mint) and red.
I had some ideas on how to turn this challenging, tiny space; into a functional one by adding accessories and colour for the Holidays. I wanted to put a bold “wallpaper” up, so it could make a huge statement when you would come in, but won’t and can’t at the moment (it’s not in our budget). So, I had to work with white walls.
To make this space feel like it’s own space, I decided to add accessories with a color that I haven’t used around the house before: turquoise (mint) and paired it with my favorite color; red.
This year, I couldn’t afford anything new, so I had to work with accessories I found around our house to decorate our entrance. I’ve always been a fan of the color turquoise, so bought some paint and started painting a mirror, a box and a bowl were we keep our keys. Not only they look pretty in this new color, they are functional. I will be posting later a tutorial on how I transformed these accessories. As for the red vases I used for this vignette, you can see the before and after pictures from one of my earlier posts. The little grey island you see in the pictures, didn’t look like this before, it used to be green with ugly black hardware. I will write another tutorial about the before and after of the island.
This little box, keeps change, pens and keys away from our son’s little fingers (for now)
This big mirror opens up the room and makes it look larger.
I also added a red rug I found on sale last year at the end of the winter season at “Pier 1 imports” (not shown in pictures). The rug doesn’t show stains, which is perfect for a family with kids and pets.
Don’t forget, your entrance should represent who you are and give an idea to others of what is waiting for them in the next rooms of your house!
I choose turquoise-mint and red as combo for ours, because it is calm but also cozy! I added it a little red bow for the Holidays and a big red clock to add a little bit of humour! much needed!
I would love it if you would share some pictures of your entrances for the Holidays and see how do you decorated them!
Thanks again for stopping by!

Beautiful colours! Gentle; with a little edge. Very creative! I love the FAM box and that gorgeous red clock.
I do not have an entry. You walk right into the kitchen! And it seems to be where everyone ends up being too
