Paper Mache Deer Head

Paper Mache Deer Head

Hello everyone,

how are you? are you ready for the weekend? I am, it’s been very busy around here. I had plans to start decorating our home for the Holidays but haven’t had much free time lately. I’m glad to be here today to share with you a project I finished two weeks ago but have not had the chance to post.

Remember, one of my previous post; ‘where I blog‘? where I showed you the state of my dining room desk and there was a white deer head on top of it? don’t worry, it wasn’t a real deer head

Well, I got it from Deserres over 3 weeks ago at half price, it’s a papier mache deer head. When I saw it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

You might have seen deer heads everywhere in blogland and in the magazines. Every time I see them I want one but I don’t like the prices. I saw one at the Hudson Bay store when they displayed their Christmas ornaments and I waited for it to be on sale but when I went back days later, the deer head was no longer there. I missed it but that’s okay because I got to make my own for under $25 (including the wood frame sold separately):

Paper Mache Deer Head

this was a simple project, I simply painted it with white acrylic paint:

I love how bright it looks with the paint:

here is the deer head painted in white, I let it dry for over night and the next day, I stapled the deer head to the wood frame (the Paper Mache deer head had a wire hook in the back for hanging):

I displayed it in my living room wall gallery, I love how it looks (it’s not too big or too small, it’s just perfect), it’s been in our living room for weeks now and besides our Christmas tree and wreath, it’s the only decoration we have so far for this Holiday season. I know, I know, you would think that my house would already be filled with Christmas decorations but I’ve been a bad blogger lately so I’m a bit behind:

Now, I have my deer head and didn’t have to pay too much for it:

you might have noticed that the wall gallery has changed quite a bit in these last few posts because I used the gold frame that was there to make the wreath and brought the four black frames here because I had no where else to display them:

wish everyone a beautiful and relaxing weekend! see you next week!

Thanks again for stopping by!

Ingrid

I’ve been lusting after some deer heads too! (except of the gold painted antler variety!) I love yours. How much did you score the deer for?

Paper mache and deer head don’t seem like phrases that go together. Kind of funny to even conceive it.

Oh I didn’t know they were making them out of paper mache, what a great, economical alternative! I have one I bought on sale during Summer time, the price was great, like $15 cause one of the antlers had fallen apart. Well, it’s still somewhere in the house waiting for me to glue the antler in its place :( Yours looks awesome, white is the way to go!

    • now at home mom says:

      Thank you Cristina :-)
You should really go and glue the antler then and I’m sure once you transform yours, it would look beautiful! :-) Love it in white very much too :-)

Oh he’s a cute little guy! I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the holidays to be honest. Your deer is a show stopper, and he really dresses up the wall. Don’t stress over all the extra decoration stuff. It’s only stuff, really. You keep on loving on that little boy, family is what holidays are made of:)

I know, I was a bit stressed because I haven’t decorated yet, at this time of the year, the house is all ready for Christmas but now it will just have to wait, maybe next week! maybe! thanks so much Amy for the lovely reminder :-) wish you a great weekend my friend!
