Layering my space for Fall

Red throw   Here in Montreal we can start to feel the weather cooling down!

The mornings are cool and I don’t feel like getting out of bed because I am too comfortable under my covers.

The evenings when I take my son and dogs outside for a walk I wear a sweater.

I love September and October because I can start layering with my clothes and with my home decor accessories.

My hub laughs at me and doesn’t understand why every change of season I need to change my home decor in our home spaces! Just like when the weather starts to cool down and we start wearing a sweater or a light coat, I need a throw and an extra pillow on my sofa.

So this season, I started layering with these pillows and throws that I already own, I choose darker colors for fall and winter because my sofa is white and in the winter months it feels too cold. I love it when my spaces feel warm and cozy, specially during those cold evenings.

These are some of my old accessories that I will be layering my living room with (soon, I will be making my own pillows)!

Fall accessories

2 big brown furry pillows (not real fur!)

a yellow and light brown pillow

big red throw from IKEA

big brown throw from Pier 1 imports

I will also add a very colorful red pattern rug to contrast with the white sofa. I don’t have a picture of my rug because it’s in my garage under many things, so I have to wait for my buddy to get it for me!

We are also considering to paint our living room in this dark shade of blue-gray :

blue-gray paint

We wanted to see how the paint color would look in our wall during the day and evenings.

In this picture we can’t see how nice it will looks, but we love it!

— paint color: Bleu loft from Behr, we had them add a touch of grey —

PS: In the October issue of House and Home, I read that one of the trend colors of Fall 2012 is purple/plumb and in the TV show City line from Friday (Sept 14), they mentioned that “wine” is one of the colors for this fall too, so I am thinking of maybe adding a touch of plumb and gold with one or two accessories.

Now, only one thing is missing:  a fireplace that works! (I have one but it doesn’t work!) 🙂

Such a shame for the fireplace!! It can be so relaxing in fall and winter!!
