How to make your Post-It’s

DIY Post-it's

Happy Saturday everyone,

I hope you had a great week and that you will have a fun weekend.

Tomorrow, we are expecting rain over here in Montreal, so I guess outdoor activities remain on hold again! It’s a shame because I found a great piece of wood that I planned a project for. Now this project will just have to wait.

Do you remember my last post?

I mentioned that I would finally be posting about how to make your own Post-it’s. Sorry about the delay but I have been very busy with Nate and not much time to write about small projects that I’ve been working on.

As promised here is the “how to” and you will be surprised of how easy these Post-it’s are to make.

These are the supplies I used:

  • cardstock paper, you can also use very thin paper for this project or recycled paper
  •  Elmer’s Washable Repositionable glue
  • paper trimmer
  • cutting mat
  • x-Acto knife
  • plastic wallpaper scraper
  • gold cardboard base from a box of chocolates (optional)

DIY Post It's Tutorial tools

I chose to make my Post-it’s out of this pink cardstock paper because it was a little bit thicker than regular office paper and I really love the hot pink:

I measured the paper and traced it to the size I wanted it:

I cut it into equal sizes, so I could place one on top of the other in a stack. As you can see, I was left with smaller scraps of paper, that I decided to put aside and use them later:

I repeated the steps horizontally to get squares, just like the real Post-it’s:

Now, this is the fun part that you’ve been waiting for; how to make them stick together like a real Post-it?

Easy, you use repositionable glue at the back and top of each square. That’s it! Didn’t I tell you it was easy? And it works!

DIY Post It's Tutorial tools

OK, now the NOT fun part: stacking one on top of each other evenly as you glue them together one at a time. It’s a long and tedious process. Luckily, hubby was there to help out and he didn’t seem to mind.

DIY Post It's Tutorial tools

You see, I made different types of post-it’s using different paper. The lighter pink Post-it’s were made out of wine gift tags. They are so cute, I left them next to my desk to write small notes:

Pink post its

Then to give them a personalized look and feel, I used two different stamps, look how cute they are:  DIY Post It's Tutorial tools

I used a cardboard base from a box of chocolates to create a small cover for my Post-it’s. I started by folding the cardboard lightly around the Post it’s and defining the folds with the plastic wallpaper scraper. As you can see from the next picture, they are slightly crooked but hey! they are just Post-it’s who’s looking right? … ME! I keep starting at these imperfections and wish I could’ve seen them before but I told you this was a tedious task. It took us over one hour to prepare this thick stack of Post-It’s:

DIY Post It's Tutorial tools

I used an x-Acto knife to trim the edges of the cardboard so it doesn’t exceed the Post-it’s by too much:

Here they are my pink Post-it’s. They look pretty wrapped around in their gold cardboard and ready to be used to take notes:

Will you be making your own Post-it’s or do you prefer buying them? I would like to know.

Since, I made these I haven’t purchased any but if you’ve been following my blog for a while you know it’s only a matter of time until I see a Post-it that will catch my eye.

Happy weekend everyone!

Thanks again for stopping by!

Oh man, these are darling, Ingrid! Almost so pretty, I wouldn’t want to use them! (Or I would save them for special notes…not the random ones more befitting of the plain old yellow post-its.) So clever to use repositionable glue…and I love the addition of the stamps. I can see how this would be a tedious and time-consuming process…perhaps something to do while watching a movie? (Ha ha. Listen to me…the New Yorker…always trying to multi-task.) Anyway, thanks for sharing the how-to! I’d love to try to make my own, especially now that I have a paper trimmer from my scrapbooking project.

    Hugs! Happy Sunday to you!

How cool is that! Or rather, how cute those are Ingrid!! My girls love their little post-its but they’re kind-of expensive, no? I wouldn’t mind so much if they didn’t go through them like it was chocolate! What a great idea. Something I could do with them now that they’re home. Today is the first day of summer holiday and I can’t recall the number of times they asked, “What are we going to do today?” I just love those stamps and the little messages you could add to them. Thanks Ingrid! Great idea!!
