Happy Monday everyone,
I hope you had a great weekend! Ours was very busy, hubby and I we tried a new summer dessert, we prepared a delicious Bundt cake and we got to work on small projects around the house. Nate, keeps himself busy coloring and eating his new Crayola set. I have to keep an eye on him every minute.
Today I am sharing with you small projects that I put together to update my craft room and my inspiration behind them:
I’ve been following Kelly from View Along The Way and I enjoy reading her blog, not only is she talented, she is funny. Kelly, along with other bloggers is participating in a ‘Ditto DIY post’ party: June 3rd. This fun party is about painting anything in ‘gold’ and sharing it with other bloggers.
Of course I wanted to participate. This would give me a chance to work with gold leaf sheets again.
I believe that pink and gold complement each other very well. So, I thought, I would integrate ‘gold’ in my pink craft room.
I used gold leaf sheets, a gold leafing pen and gold leaf spray paint to create these gold accessories for the desk in my office/craft room.
This post, is only to show you the overall results of my gold projects and I will be sharing with you the tutorials on how I achieved them in a future post.
Remember, I showed you this notebook in one of my previous posts? I love notebooks, I used them everyday and I have a lot of them around the house and always carry one in my purse. Have you ever seen a gold notebook in the stores? I haven’t, but I don’t go shopping very often anymore. Anyhow, recently I saw one on Martha Stewart’s June edition Living magazine, there was a picture of a stunning metallic leather cover journal. The journal looked so pretty and I wanted one right away but I already have too many brown leather journals in my house that hubby bought for me years ago. I knew I could achieve a similar look on my own by using gold leaf sheets:
I received this grey Mickey Mouse notebook from my brother on my last birthday. He knows, me very well. I decided to personalize it with my oil-based Sharpie gold paint marker. It was easy, it took me one minute to draw inside the lines and I love the outcome. Now, it’s my grey-gold Mickey Mouse notebook:
Do you see how my brown leather journal turned out? Beautiful, I love it, it looks great!
I also updated an old desktop carousel that I found in our garage a couple of weeks ago. It was in one of my hubby’s boxes that he brought with him when we moved in together. I liked it but it was black and didn’t go with our décor. I started by transforming it in gold with gold sheets but I ran out of them. I went to Michael’s to get some more but we were in a hurry and I accidentally bought the copper leaf sheets instead. Warning, they look very similar in the package but completely different when applied. I had gold spray paint for another project and decided to spray paint the desktop carousel instead. I was scared of the result and that the leather would be ruined. Fortunately, it turned out great:
The next small project is one of my pink dollar store planter that I use to store my markers. I spray painted the bottom in gold and left the top as is for contrast. I really like how the pink pops next to the gold:
Did you notice the smallest gold booklet next to my gold journal? Well, it is in fact homemade post-it’s set in a gold color casing. I can’t wait to show you how I pulled this pretty and simple project off in a future post. I don’t think I will ever buy post-it’s again. OK, who am I kidding? I will still buy them:
Finally, this is another planter from IKEA that I updated with gold leaf sheets. Yes, you guessed right, the plant in the picture is fake. I don’t have many plants in my house but I have a few of these around because I know they won’t die:
This is how my new gold home office accessories look on my desktop:
I love how they look great together:
I hope you liked them as much as I do! Is anyone else painting anything in gold this summer or have painted in the past? Please let me know and I beg you to please tell me I’m not the only one!
Hope you will have a great week!
Thanks again for stopping by!
