This afternoon, I found this site http://artfulparent.typepad.com/artfulparent/2010/12/candy-cane-playdough.html on how to do your own DIY Play dough for the Holidays.
I loved the idea so much, I decided to do my own but like many of you, I don’t always follow the instructions to the letter. The ingredients and instructions are very simple to follow, I will mention them below but please visit their site to get all the instructions 🙂
My little one is only 18 months old but he’s been playing with play dough for the last 2 months, we got them at the dollar store in different colors and every day he plays with them by himself for about 30 minutes (Thank God, while he plays with play dough, I get some alone-mommy-time) 🙂 So instead of buying more, I will do my own.
There is a little 2 year old girl, to whom I will be making this for in red and in green for the Holidays.
ingredients (for 1)
. 1 cup of white flour
. 1 1/2 cup of salt
. 2 tbsp. of cream of tartar
. 1 cup of water
. 1 tbsp. of oil (vegetable oil)
. food coloring (red and green)
. glitter (if you like glitter)
. mix the white flour, salt and cream of tartar together
. add the oil, and water to the mix
. cook all in a low to medium heat for 5 minutes, stir regularly until it doesn’t stick to the pan
. while is still hot, place it on parchment paper and let it cool down for 2 minutes
. start kneading for about 5 minutes, while kneading add the food coloring of your choice until you get the desired color
. add glitter to the dough, just for fun!
. add peppermint essential oil for candy cane smell
. as shown in their site, roll and twist the play dough together and put them in a glass jar
This is a fun and simple gift for kids to enjoy! 🙂
If you have kids or nieces, nephews ,little cousins or kids around you for the Holidays I recommend you giving this as a gift. My little man was around me while I did it and he loved playing with them! I just need to keep on eye on him and on the dogs to not eat this! it smells good! 🙂
Thanks again for stopping by!
