Dining Room Makeover update and ORC week 4

gold white black dining room getting makeover soon

Hello everyone,

I can’t believe we are already on week 4 of the ORC challenge. It’s incredible how fast time flies. So, here is another update on how our small dining room is coming together.

At week 4, I’m still undecided on the layout of this space. Friends, I need your help. I took pictures of the space with the white sectional (remember my ORC week 3 post) and pictures without it.

Remember, how much I loved the idea of having a sofa here, well I still do, but when I look at it, I think it might be too big for this space.

Hubby, is begging for me to keep it here but I’m not sure yet, so this is why I need your input. What do you really think?

In the picture below, you can see how it looks with the white sectional. I should’ve also taken a picture for you with only one half of the sectional, so you could’ve had a better idea of what I’m talking about.

If you look closely at the legs of the sectional (the one closest to the patio doors), you can see that hubby added about 2 inches of height with pieces of wood, so that the sofa would be at the right height for the table. It’s a temporary solution until we decide if we keep it or not. If we decide to keep it the sectional then we can buy new legs:

Remember, I mentioned that we painted the chandelier? you can see it in this picture but please don’t look at the “temporary” light bulbs, I need to change them.

There is something else that we need to take care of and that has been bothering me; it’s the glue on the grey wall. Don’t know yet how we will manage to remove the glue from the wall but I need to have hubby work on this with me as soon as possible.

The rug is not staying, I just wanted to see how this space would look with a rug and I prefer not having one here:

I also switched the spray painted lamps for these ones that used to be in our basement but I would’ve liked them better if they would’ve been taller. I might bring back the spray painted ones upstairs again:

Please, please friends let me know what do you think. Should I keep the white sectional here, should I keep just half of it or just the table?

In case you missed it, you can read week 1, week 3 of the ORC challenge

& don’t forget to check out what the others are doing!

Thanks again for stopping by!

I can’t make up my mind. I reality can’t…it looks nice both ways. Reading your post, I think you prefer without the sofa…I say go with your gut instinct and don’t second guess yourself. You have a gift:)

with Nate it’s not easy to keep it clean but so far I’ve managed to keep it clean (so far)
& I know that it’s not easy keeping anything white looking white with kids (my old white rug looks grey now) ha!ha! :-)

  • Green Door Hospitality says:

I am leaning towards the idea of part of the sectional though would need to see that to be sure. The full sectional might be a little too large for the space if the space is going to be used as a dining room. If not, then it works well. I really love how the gold accents are popping! :-)

thank you very much Kenley, I should’ve taken a picture with only one half of the sectional, I might take one for you this week so you can see what I’m talking about! We use this space to eat but we also use it to watch TV and I love having hubby and Nate around when I’m preparing our meals :-) I’m happy to be participating in this challenge it’s making me try new fun things! :-)
      thanks again Kenley!

  • Renee @ Casa Stephens says:

I don’t know….it’s so pretty either way! The sectional brings a uniqueness to the space but I kind of love the look of a conventional dining room too. I’m not sure you can go wrong either way =)

    • now at home mom says:

thank you so much Renee :-)
I love both looks too and I love how the sectional fills in the room
I also need to start looking for the chairs that I will be using for this space (I have a few in our garage that might work well in this space) :-)

I say – Go with your gut feeling – you know what you like and what will look best. Don’t second guess yourself or try and do something just because that’s what you think those of us on the outside will like it. I’m sure it will look FANTASTIC!

  • Linda @ Calling it Home says:

The truth is that I like it better without the sectional. However, if your husband is begging and it doesn’t look bad, I would give that man what he wants. Then, you will never need to get his opinion on anything again. You can always say “I have the sectional in the dining room for you”. Hope that helps, it looks great,

Oh Ingrid, I see that things are coming together nicely! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the gold/copper colour you’ve spray painted everything. Looks very elegant and rich. Here’s my thought. Keep part of the sectional, the part that sits against the wall, and move that gorgeous table over to the couch’s side and use it as a side table. This way, you don’t need to adjust the height of the legs. But then again, I don’t have your talent when it comes to decorating! Can’t wait to see the final reveal! :-)

:-) ah! you are a clever lady Lidia, I love your idea very much :-) but guess what it’s Wednesday evening and for now I removed the sectional from here (it’s back to the living room) but I might consider your idea
I’m trying to write the new post with the new pics and I’m so bad at making a choice for this space :-) ha!ha!
