Burlap Wreath

Canadian Independance Day

Happy Sunday everyone,

tomorrow July 1st is Canada day, so for all you Canadians out there Happy Canada day!

And to my American friends, Happy Independence Day: July 4th !!!

As a way to celebrate this beautiful day, I decided to hang another wreath at my front door. By now, you should expect that I will jump at the chance for any excuse to hang a wreath. This one was very easy to do, it only took me about 15 minutes to complete the whole thing. I did it while hubby was playing with our son outside in our yard last week. We took advantage of the sun.

You can see my little one here flipping over the chairs.

Some days I can’t believe he’s already 2 years old and then some days I can’t believe he is just 2 years old:

You can see him here helping daddy water the lawn. He is becoming as strong as his dad:

Now, let’s get back to the purpose of this post:

After, looking at the beautiful wreath that my friend Allyson from Domestic Superhero made for her front door for July 4th, I wanted to make my own for Canada day. Of course, it doesn’t look as pretty as hers but I had to work with what I had. You should look at herburlap wreath, it’s gorgeous!

Tools I used:

  • burlap
  • straw wreath
  • small flag
  • plastic flowers
  • sewing pins

I had this straw wreath from Michael’s that I got several weeks ago when planning to decorate it for summer. Straw wreaths are very messy, which is why I decided to wrap mine around with plastic food wrap:

Next, I wrapped burlap around it:

I used sewing pins to keep the burlap in place:

I found these plastic flowers from the dollar store and pinned them next to each other to one side of the wreath:

I found this headband at our local dollar store and I knew I could use these  ‘Canada’ flags to decorate my wreath, they were the perfect size for it:

When I was removing one of the flags from the headband, I tore it apart by mistake and I couldn’t use it anymore. I was glad, to have one more left to work with. I had to ask hubby to carefully remove the second one using his tools. He did a better job than me. I then pinned the small flag to the wreath:

And voila, here is my new wreath!

Do you see that big piece of wood behind the wreath? I wanted to make something with it but because of the ‘blah’ weather we’ve being having I haven’t been able to work outside when hubby has been around to look after Nate. I guess I still have the rest of the summer to work on it!

By the way, the first and last picture I had to take them in my craft room because this last week we’ve mostly had rainy and cloudy days and as I have mentioned to you before, I am very lucky to have found the perfect spot in my craft room to take bright pictures:

Canadian Independance Day 02

Enjoy your Sunday everyone, we will be celebrating a little girl’s birthday today, you know who you are!

I will be back next week because hubby is off from work until Tuesday and we are planning on spending a lot of time with our little one

Thanks again for stopping by!

Ingrid
